Members of the Congressional Caucus of CPAs and Accountants, an informal, bipartisan group of lawmakers, sent a letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) on proposals to simplify the administration of the tax code. The letter urges Ways & Means to consider six complex areas in its approach to reform. With one of the areas, tax return due dates, both AICPA and TSCPA advocate on behalf of H.R. 901, the Tax Reform Due Date Simplification Act of 2013. The other areas of reform consideration are education incentives, retirement plans, kiddie tax, penalty reform, and corrected Form 1099. The caucus, which includes Texas members Bill Flores, CPA Brazos Valley, and Mike Conaway, CPA-Permian Basin, encourages the House committee to vigorously pursue these and other opportunities to consolidate and harmonize the tax code.
